Want to know how to ruin your 7 year old son's night? Buy him a book at the bookstore and then say, "Guess what! You get to snuggle up with Mama tonight and read!" I wish I had a shot of the look on his face to post here. I was awesomely priceless!

We just had dinner at a local Mexican restaurant. Yayyyyy! We found one! And one that didn't use to be a strip club! BONUS! ;) I just don't think I could dip my chip at a place where....nevermind! Anyway, one of the owner's sons who was around Jack's age was working there and doing an EXCELLENT job. This isn't a story about child labor or how legal a 9 year old working is, by the way. We were teasing Jack, saying "Look at him, he's actually WORKING!...He's doing such a great job!" and stuff like that. At first Jack was totally put off because the kid had his shirt tucked in and I guess that's just a deal breaker for ol' Jack! But people were coming up to the boy and giving him tips and telling him what a good job he was doing. Jack was taking all this in and said, "Doesn't matter! I could make what they just gave him in 2 days!" Ummmmm, Jack, that boy made it in an hour! ;) So then Jack decided he'd be better off working at Burger King. I asked him if that was because "you can have it your way". He said no, "You can have it the way they MAKE it!" Oooooookay then! Guess Jack isn't a customer service kind of guy!

And here's some philosophy from a story on the internet that I guess just sort of "spoke" to me. It's from this story.

Pieces of Me

Tonight Wayne asked me what I wanted to do. I told him part of me wanted a margarita, part of me wanted to go see the movie "Arthur" and part of me just wanted something chocolate. A margarita is a pretty easy go-to thing with me. They're good. I like them. Easy enough. I wanted to see "Arthur" because I thought it might make me laugh. The bad part is I get really restless and the idea of having to sit in my chair for 2 hours makes me feel tied down, for lack of a better way to put it. Besides, I think walking around the theater during the movie is probably frowned upon. And the chocolate thing...I've just been wanting something chocolate for a couple of days. Maybe it's seeing all the Easter candy around. So I ended up with a margarita and a half. Yes, I waste alcohol. I almost never finish what I order. I am a ridiculous lighweight when it comes to that. The other day I ordered what, on the menu, looked delicious. It was a cherry limeade margarita. I took a few sips and it was just not that good. Besides the weird flavor it was too strong. By the time I was "finished" with it, it looked like I'd barely touched it. So I had Wayne drink a big ol' swig of it because I didn't want to seem rude for not drinking it. Yes...I know! ((eyeroll)) And instead of chocolate, I was distracted by my favorite candy, Hot Tamales. So basically my night consisted of the aforementioned (excellent use of that word!) margarita(s), a trip to Target to buy some wooden hangers, a cable for our newly purchased bedroom TV, a box of Hot Tamales and home to line some more shelves (which involved me nicely slicing my finger).

Besides all that excitement, this week has been kind of a hard one for me.

It's no secret that I don't do moves well. It's the old OCD monster. I've learned how to deal with it to a degree. I mean, I know what to expect, I know that it is what it is and it will go away, I'll adjust. But it's when I'm in the thick of it that's hard. In terms of that I'm doing pretty well. Wayne thinks I've just been too in my  head this week and that's what's causing me some problems. I spend a great majority of my time when I'm home either in my bedroom either reading or napping. It's the place I'm most comfortable, it's quiet, not in anybody's way and vice versa. Basically, this is not my norm. I had gotten so used to working and having someplace to be, someone expecting me to be somewhere or do something that all this time has been hard to deal with. Earlier in the week, we had been told our furniture and things would be arriving this week. That would have taken up some time and given me projects. And I am a project girl! Not to be confused with a girl from the projects! ;) But that didn't happen, so basically it's just been a rough week. I know that a lot of this is par for the course with a move. I've done it enough times that I recognize it for what it is. Fast forward a couple of months and things will be fine. But normal doesn't become normal overnight. I have to allow time to do its thing and just adjust. I guess that's just the problem though, I can't fast forward. I'm used to doing everything fast and just getting it done at the pace that I want it done and I have no control over this. I may admit to be a little bit of a control freak who gets irritated when her shelf liner doesn't go in straight! 

And just to round this off with a little but of funny, Rhett's up here telling me about his time at Chuck E. Cheese tonight (Wayne took them after we got back from Target). So, I told him that that's where I got him, as a prize at Chuck E. Cheese for having so many tickets. He seemed to not believe that, so I said "Ooookay, it was actually Dave and Busters!" He sat here thinking it over for a minute and said, "I don't believe that, I know I was born on a Mississippi bridge."    Whaaaaa????? Where did he come up with that?

Whiny Wednesday

Had a good talk with a former co-worker/friend (current, not former on the friend part, I'll keep her). We had a name for each day of the week. Monday was Mad-as-Hell Monday, Ticked Off Tuesday, Whiny Wednesday and hmmm, I'm forgetting Friday. We never could work out what to call Thursday, unless we pretended we had a lisp and called it something with an 'S'. I miss those girls. We had such a great dynamic in that office!

I wouldn't say I feel exactly Whiny today, but definitely some kind of "off" mood. I was super stressed out for a good part of the afternoon. I think I'm over that and just left with the residual effects of it. Residual effects = snarky-don't-get-in-my-face-attitude-unless-you-want-to-get-hurt attitude. Not like I'm going to CUT somebody or something. I'll leave all that shady business to my friend Nina! ;) I'd more likely just hurt you with my words. But I'll try to be a good girl and keep my mouth shut.

In other world news....we thought we might be getting our furniture tomorrow or Friday. Until the lady with the shipping company got confused. She confused her dates and locations. I wonder if she gets confused tying her shoes? Oh, sorry, I was going to try to refrain from the attitude. ((eyeroll)) Sometimes I just can't help it, it's letting off steam. With each nasty comment I feel just a little bit better! aaaaahahahahahahahahaha <<evil laugh>>  Anyway, it should be early  next week instead. Unless, God forbid, someone else gets confused. Just sayin'.

So, since we won't be getting our washer and dryer back we have to do something about this mountain in our laundry room. Which means we'll have to go spend some time and copious amounts of quarters at a laundromat. Oh, that reminds me, I haven't seen any Mexican restaurants here. That was just a side note to keep things lively. Laundromats can be sort of relaxing. Sometimes. I used to like them. Maybe I like them less now. What I really am not liking right now is being awake. I feel like I need to sleep for maybe 36 hours straight. This waking up at 6 a.m. for no reason thing is starting to irritate me. Maybe 'starting' is the wrong verb. I don't think I ever really enjoyed it. I think what I WOULD enjoy right now is a margarita. Not the cherry limeade one that they have at O'Charley's. I don't recommend that one. Just a plain one with plenty of salt would be great, thanks. Oooooh cabana boooooyyyy....((looks around)) Noone's coming. Crap.

I wish I had already take my sleep medicine so I could say it's the drugs talking, but a.) I don't really have any sleep medicine and b.) maybe it's better to just claim the crazy ;)

If you're tired maybe you don't want to read this, more stream of consciousness coming your way, apparently these things make people tired or confused or some other feeling that people don't generally strive to feel.

Back hurting like crazy...did something weird to it this morning...Thai food is not as good the next day...I'm tired and apathetic at the moment...apathetic is such a good word for how I feel right now...maybe I just like the word in general....my keyboard is irritating me...I should be way farther along in this post than I am, but my keyboard is be weird...I need to google what the difference is between farther and further...but I won't right now...again, apathetic, don't care...maybe I'll care tomorrow...I should be in a way better mood, got some nice news from back in Hawaii today...not in a bad mood, just again, don't care...I'm like the Energizer bunny thing right before he takes his last hop...or like microwave popcorn when it's been in there for about 4 1/2 minutes and is probably already done, but you know when it starts to be a few more seconds between the pops, that's me...slowly popping...think it would be just so fabulous if somehow I could sleep until about 8:44 in the morning...would be soooo nice...been back on the mainland for a week now....hey, you know what this Friday has in common with last Friday?...I was ALSO dead tired at this time last week...awesome...moving into our house on Sunday sometime...I should muster some enthusiasm...maybe I'll find some in my purse tomorrow...actually had a nice day today...I think I can pinpoint almost the exact moment when I was "done" with today...Jack finds a pair of Alabama boxer shorts that he declared "perfect" to both me and the salesguy at the store...salesguy enthusiastically disagreed with Jack...since Jack wanted the boxers, Brent needed a blanket...tag teamed...too many people asking me too many questions after I'd eaten something I really shouldn't have...you know those cookies at the cookie store that are two cookies with all that icing in the middle like a big ol' sandwich?...I have never had one, but always wanted to try one...they're good, but no more...too much sugar...too many questions...tired Laura...I'm now a zombie...I hope my hair doesn't turn all grey and start looking all Nick Nolte-ish...and somebody doesn't shred my clothes...and I have to like eat people or something...actually I don't know what zombies do...but in my mind that is what they do...am I right?...maybe I'm thinking of the "Thriller" video...it's interesting to me that so many people around here are seemingly unaffected/unfazed (sp?) by the possible government shutdown...we're not right at military base, so it's to be expected I guess...however, at a couple of stores this afternoon they have military discounts...I made sure to tell them that I reeeeaaaallllyyyy needed the discount because I might not get paid if this mess doesn't get straightened out fast...it amused me to see their blank stares...then a half laugh and kind of "yeah, man, I think I heard about that"...all kind of Keanu Reeves in Bill and Ted's Excellent Adventure like...but not, because that's not how they talked...trying to read the third and final book in the "The Girl Who..." series...these books are so good, but man you have to want it because they are slow to get started...nice nail salon today...they even have a wine option...I passed on that option...I have a love/hate thing with pedicures...I like the end result...but sitting there for the leg and foot massage sort of cramps my style sometimes...sometimes I can chill for it...but sometimes it seriously annoys me and I want to just say "please paint my toes and let me out of this chair!"...I don't know if they would understand me though...a lot of native Asians doing nails...sometimes even explaining my color choice can be dicey...may have hit a wall...no more thoughts...just a zombie stare...gosh, I really hope I don't wake up and find out I've eaten on of my dogs or something... I mean, I'm not even hungry, but then again, I don't think that matters if you're a zombie....or does it?...I don't know anything about zombies.
