As I'm waiting for my Tylenol PM to kick in, which seems to be the only way short of a regular sleeping pill for me to sleep through the night these days (nights), I was pondering the holidays.
I'm not being politically correct by saying "holidays", I'm just referring to the time leading up to Thanksgiving and through Christmas. Rhett was saying to me earlier how he can't wait till Christmas. I understand that him being 7 years old and all. I think for me though, that I really enjoy the lead up to the holidays more than the actual holiday itself. My family is very big on traditions and therefore doing things a certain way for holidays is pretty ingrained in me. (I think I might have spelled ingrained wrong? e?) Anyway.... It's not the same here in Hawaii because as much as I dislike, maybe even loathe being cold, if it was a little bit cooler here that would go a long way with setting the "mood" for the Season. So, as soon as I can find them I start lighting Fall and Christmas scented candles and tarts to get that feeling.
There are certain things that must be had a holiday meals. For example, what would Thanksgiving be without my family's apple/cranberry casserole? Uh, NOT Thanksgiving! Hello?! I must have sweet potatoes, too. The mushed up kind. But not with marshmallows. Marshmallows are o.k. But I much prefer the sort of praline topping kind. I don't need any green bean casserole with the crispy onion things. Yuck! I think there should be turkey, but for myself I could take it or leave it as far as eating it. I do think it should be there for everybody else though! Those are my requirements.
The Saturday after Thanksgiving is the day for putting up the tree. This is not something we did when I was growing up. I think then it was more like the second week of December. But I like the tradition of putting up the Saturday after Thanksgiving. It's early enough without being too early and the tree is up long enough but not too long. I usually take it down within a day or two of Christmas being over. One year soon we're going to have to break down and get a pre-lit tree. There are certain tasks that probably should not go to a person with a temper such as mine. Yet, for some reason, I am the designated tree-lighter. Oh well, Heaven help them all! ;) On the subject of lights, we have the colored ones. I think some people might view colored lights as kind of a, how shall I put this..., a less refined look. But I always had colored ones when I was little and I still think they're beautiful. I do love the look of a tree with white lights too, but I just don't think I want that for myself.
This year, Wayne and I are going out for a little Black Friday shopping. We don't always. In fact, we don't usually. But I think it kind of depends on what is on the kids' Christmas lists. This year there are a couple of things we can probably find good deals on. Everybody keeps telling me to just go online and order because you can get the deals that way, too. I don't know though, this year I'm just kind of looking forward to getting up before dawn and going shopping. I know full well that the public will drive me crazy and I'll probably end the excursion with, "I'm never doing that again"! But for right now, I'm looking forward to it and that's all part of the lead up to the holidays that I enjoy.
If you want to make $10-$150/hour and up to $3500/month of your free time working at
home part-time then this is the most important message you’re ever
going to read.
Here’s why:
“Businesses need ME! They’re paying me money – CASH – to a
36-year-old work-at-home mother to get my opinion.”

Guess what?
They also need YOU!
I’m not a marketing expert or a sales gal. In fact, I know very
little about business. But I do know exactly what I like and what
I don’t like. I know what products I would buy and what services
I would use.
Guess what? This is exactly what large companies are paying me
for. They need to know what their average customer needs and
wants. So these companies pay millions of dollars every month to
the average person. In return, the average person, myself
included, answers some questions and gives them their opinion.
